Dan Orlovsky Reveals Major Concern About Giants’ Offense

For the third time in as many years, the New York Giants failed to score a single touchdown in Week 1.

This time, with Russell Wilson at the helm.

The former Super Bowl champion looked overwhelmed from start to finish.

He completed just 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards, taking two sacks and rushing eight times for 44 yards.

However, the issues go well beyond the numbers.

As Dan Orlovsky pointed out on X, Wilson couldn’t get anything going against the Washington Commanders’ pass-rush, and it didn’t look fixable:

“The thing that’s most concerning about Giants offense. Russell’s first thing to do, consistently vs any form of pressure. Drops his eyes and looks at the rush. That to me screams—time to move on,” Orlovsky posted on X.

Wilson kept trying to force-feed the ball to Malik Nabers, who hauled in five receptions on 12 targets for 71 yards.

Wan’Dale Robinson had six receptions for 55 yards, and no other Giant had more than two receptions, with both running backs logging a pair each.

This wasn’t an encouraging debut for Wlison.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll was non-committal about sticking with him for Week 2.

The Giants will stay on the road to meet with the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington.

And while they might not want to rush Jaxson Dart into action, they could consider sending him to the field if Wilson struggles again in that game.

If not, it’s hard to envision him holding onto his job past Week 4 if he keeps this up.

Dart was a bit of a long-term project, but he looked sharp in the preseason.

And even if he’s not entirely ready to take the reins of the offense, the Giants won’t have a lot to lose.

They certainly can’t afford poor quarterback play to hold them back again.

Wilson hasn’t looked like his usual self in years now, and he may simply not have it anymore.

Stats Show How Impressive Breece Hall Was Against Steelers
EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - SEPTEMBER 07: Breece Hall #20 of the New York Jets runs with the ball during the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at MetLife Stadium on September 07, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

There was a lot of speculation surrounding Breece Hall‘s future with the New York Jets this offseason.

The Jets ultimately shut down the rumors when head coach Aaron Glenn said that he wanted to use all of his running backs this season.

All of them did get a couple of touches, but Hall was by far the most efficient.

As pointed out by Zack Rosenblatt on X, the former second-round pick crushed the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense with one of the most efficient outings of his career:

“Breece Hall averaged 4.74 yards after contact per attempt, his best since Week 17 in 2023 against the Browns. Hall also faced a stacked box 31.6% of the time, per NextGen, which ranked the fifth-highest this week among qualifying RBs. He also averaged 1.47 yards over expected per carry, which ranked fourth. A great game for the Jets RB,” Blatt posted on X.

The fact that he kept doing that despite facing stacked boxes over and over speaks volumes about how well he played in this game.

Hall talked about wanting to make a statement and prove to the Jets that he can be the bell-cow running back they need him to be.

Truth be told, the sole fact that they could’ve considered moving on from him was somewhat surprising, as he’s always been a reliable and efficient tackle-breaker with a perennial big-play potential.

Hall logged 107 rushing yards on 19 carries (5.6 yards per carry):

He also hauled in a couple of receptions for 38 yards, once again showcasing his dual-threat skill set.

The Jets are going to be a run-heavy team to allow Justin Fields to be more efficient.

And while the Steelers might not give up 100+ rushing yards to any player often this season, Hall just proved that the Jets’ best chance to keep the chains in motion and the ball rolling will be to feed him early and often.

Dan Orlovsky Raves About Aaron Rodgers

This might be Aaron Rodgers‘ final year in the National Football League.

And if he keeps playing like he played in Week 1, he will go out with a bang.

Rodgers completed 22 of 30 passes for 244 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions in his debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

However, what impressed Dan Orlovsky the most wasn’t even the numbers.

Talking on ESPN’s “Get Up,” the former quarterback-turned analyst gushed about Rodgers’ ability to fool the New York Jets’ defense.

“Up until last night, I thought he was the best quarterback playing football yesterday in the NFL. He was ridiculous. The thing that stood out was just the savvy deception that he brings to the football team. I know it’s Week 1, but it felt like the experience that Rodgers has at the line of scrimmage was perfectly matched with Arthur Smith to create some big plays,” Orlovsky said.

He dug deep into the tape to show how Rodgers’ fake handoffs and adjustments at the line of scrimmage created chaos in the secondary, giving him wide-open throws all day long.

Rodgers has always been a master of deception.

He has made a living out of forcing opposing defensive players offside with his cadence, and no one knows how to make the most of free plays as well as he does.

It was just one game, and it’s never wise to jump to conclusions this early in the season.

But after all that was written and said about how Rodgers would adapt to Arthur Smith’s offense, it seems like he might be just fine.

He thrived in the play-action throughout the course of the entire game, and if the offensive line holds up and keeps him out of harm’s way, he could make defenders pay over and over.

Rodgers didn’t look like his usual self in New York City.

Still, everybody should know better than to count out one of the greatest passers the game has ever seen.

Colts Make NFL History Against Dolphins

The Indianapolis Colts were under fire for their decision to move on from Anthony Richardson.

Then, Daniel Jones looked like prime Peyton Manning out there, and everybody forgot about the former first-round pick.

As pointed out by NFL researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming, Jones led the Colts to a historical performance in his first game with the Colts:

“With Daniel Jones fresh off winning the quarterback battle in preseason, the Colts kicked off the 2025 season with a scoring drive against the Dolphins. And then another. And another. And another. All seven of the Colts possessions ended in a field goal or touchdown. No turnovers, no punts, no kneel downs. They are the first team since at least 1991 to score on every single possession in a game (1991 is as far back as drive data has been tracked). And they did it with a quarterback making his team debut,” Koplowitz-Fleming wrote.

For years, the Colts have been a quarterback away from being a legitimate playoff contender.

They’ve struggled mightily to find a replacement since Andrew Luck shockingly announced his retirement shortly before the start of the season.

Now, they may have finally found their guy.

Shane Steichen kept the team floating around .500 and in the playoff race with Gardner Minshew as his starter for most of his first year in charge of the team.

That speaks volumes about his coaching and offensive mind.

Then, the Anthony Richardson experiment continued to hold this team back, but it looked like they had more than enough in place to be competitive.

Jones has struggled for most of his career, except for his first season under Brian Daboll, so there were plenty of reasons to be skeptical about him.

Still, he does have all the physical tools and traits one would want from a starting-caliber quarterback.

It was just a game, and it looks like the Miami Dolphins will be on the wrong side of multiple blowouts this season, yet it was fairly encouraging.

Whether he can keep this up for 17 weeks remains to be seen.

Eagles Work Out Former Bengals Defender
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - SEPTEMBER 04: Fireworks go off as the Philadelphia Eagles kick the ball to Dallas Cowboys to start the first quarter in the game at Lincoln Financial Field on September 04, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The rich always get richer, and the Philadelphia Eagles are absolutely wealthy.

That’s why they want to keep adding even more firepower to their already-stacked roster.

According to a report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, they hosted veteran CB Mike Hilton for a visit.

The former Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers standout will work out for the defending Super Bowl champions on Monday.

The Eagles have a solid defense, but there’s still a big opening at cornerback.

Vic Fangio rolled with Quinyon Mitchell, as expected, yet there are still doubts about who should start opposite him.

Jakorian Bennett and Adoree’ Jackson both struggled, and Kelee Ringo only played on special teams.

Jackson allowed five receptions on seven targets for 103 yards, and while CeeDee Lamb is an elite pass-catcher, he clearly won’t be able to hold his own against him twice a year.

Other than that, the Eagles’ secondary looked solid with Cooper DeJean, Reed Blankenship, and Andrew Mukuba alongside Mitchell, so they just need to add that missing piece to be even scarier.

Hilton is a proven ball-hawk with a great nose for the football.

He’s good in coverage and excels in the slot as well.

The Eagles will square off with the Kansas City Chiefs for a Super Bowl rematch in Week 2.

And while they shouldn’t find that much trouble against a decimated receivers corps that will be missing Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, revamping that cornerback position should be at the top of their priority list right now.

Geno Smith Makes Franchise History With Impressive Debut

The Las Vegas Raiders looked solid in their debut.

Granted, the New England Patriots might not be a barometer to determine that, but you can only beat whoever’s in front of you, and the Raiders did that.

Plenty of that had to do with Geno Smith.

As pointed out by Taylor Rocha, the former Seattle Seahawks star looked sharp with 362 passing yards, which is a new record for the most passing yards in a debut.

Smith completed 24 of 34 passes, adding one touchdown and one interception.

Of course, the turnover was a stain in his otherwise flawless debut, but he looked solid for the most part.

Chip Kelly’s offense marched down the field with ease, and Mike Vrabel will have to dig deep into the tape to make the necessary adjustments after allowing four different pass-catchers to average at least 20 yards per catch.

There’s not much to do against a physical specimen like Brock Bowers, but it’s not like the Raiders had a lot to work with in the passing game besides him and Jakobi Meyers.

Smith is an underrated passer and a true gunslinger.

He doesn’t usually get the credit he deserves, but he looks tailor-made to elevate the Raiders’ offense once and for all after so many years of struggles.

Smith and the Raiders will head home to host the Los Angeles Chargers for a high-flying Monday Night Football divisional matchup.

And judging by what we’ve seen so far, this AFC West clash could be quite the shootout.

Dan Orlovsky Defends Bengals After Win Over Browns

The Cincinnati Bengals, just like Joe Burrow said, stole one on the road.

They’ve struggled mightily in the first two weeks under Zac Taylor’s command, so getting a win in the season opener was crucial to their aspirations.

However, they barely escaped with this triumph, and they were a field goal away from falling to 0-1 again.

Nevertheless, Dan Orlovsky believes they should feel quite good about themselves right now.

Talking on ESPN’s “Get Up,” the former quarterback claimed to feel “ecstatic” and much better about the Bengals right now.

That might be a little too much to say of a team that was held to seven yards in the second half of a game.

That’s also a lot to say if you consider that the Browns shut down both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Even so, the Bengals have usually gotten off to slow starts, so surviving this game despite those woes might be a positive sign, knowing that they will peak in the second half of the season.

Also, divisional games are always tough to win, and everybody feels competitive in the first game of the season.

The Browns have an elite defense, and they showed up to play in Week 1.

Good teams get the job done, even when it’s not easy or pretty, and even when they need a couple of lucky bounces to go their way.

Their defense still has a long way to go, but their offense should be much better as the season goes by.

Ian Rapoport Reveals Injury Update On George Kittle
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - SEPTEMBER 07: George Kittle #85 of the San Francisco 49ers scores a touchdown against Ty Okada #39 of the Seattle Seahawks during the first quarter during the game at Lumen Field on September 07, 2025 in Seattle, Washington.

The San Francisco 49ers‘ season began just like they spent the previous one: With a star player getting hurt.

George Kittle sustained a hamstring injury in the win over the Seattle Seahawks, and they’ve been secretive about his condition.

With that in mind, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that while the fact that he stayed in uniform was a good sign, the team might want to err on the side of caution with him.

Rapoport also said he will undergo further testing to determine the extent of the injury:

“We will start with their star tight end, George Kittle. Was looking like it was going to be a productive day—four catches, 25 yards. The next thing you know, he is on the sidelines wearing a baseball cap, nursing a hamstring injury. Was quickly ruled out with that hamstring injury. Generally, when a player’s ruled out, that indicates a major injury. Not so sure here. George Kittle’s gonna undergo an MRI, and, certainly, this could be the San Francisco 49ers being cautious, knowing that it is Week 1 of 17, knowing that he is one of the best players. Remained in uniform—maybe that is a good sign,” Rapoport said.

Kittle is one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the game, and he’s an absolute beast when it comes to blocking.

He’s absolutely crucial to what they do on offense, and not having him out there could be a lethal blow.

Then again, he also has a long history of injuries, so they might want to take things slowly with him for the time being.

Brock Purdy didn’t look sharp in his first game under his new contract.

He often tried to force throws and do a little too much, which is usually the case when he doesn’t have all his star players by his side.

He has developed strong chemistry with Kittle, one of the team’s preferred targets in the end zone.

The team will share an update after he undergoes more testing, but given his history of injuries and how delicate hamstrings are, it’s hard to envision him suiting up to face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Stats Reveal Encouraging Trend For Raiders Offense

It’s the dawn of a new era for the Las Vegas Raiders.

So far, so good.

Geno Smith looked sharp in his debut with his new team, and they didn’t find much trouble getting past the New England Patriots.

While their 20 points aren’t that impressive by today’s standards, a deeper look at the stat sheet shows just how proficient Chip Kelly’s offense was.

As pointed out by Ben Volin on X, four different Raiders receivers averaged at least 20 yards per catch in the win:

“Raiders had 4 receivers average 20 yards per catch. Chip Kelly ran a clinic,” Volin posted on X.

Jakobi Meyers made a strong case to get the contract he’s looking for.

He paced the team in catches with eight receptions on 10 targets for 97 yards.

Second-year tight end Brock Bowers picked up where he left off last season, hauling in five receptions on eight targets for 103 yards before leaving with a knee injury.

He’s not expected to miss time, and with a much-improved passing and play-calling situation, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see him lead all tight ends in receiving yards this season.

Perhaps the only disappointing aspect of the offense was that Ashton Jeanty was held to 38 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries, but the Raiders kept finding ways to move the chains regardless.

This team will be in the mix for a playoff spot all season.

And while Pete Carroll and his offensive coordinator clearly deserve plenty of credit for this turnaround, it’s also time people start giving Geno Smith his flowers as one of the most underrated gunslingers in the game.

Mike Tomlin Gushes About Key Steelers Veteran
EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY - SEPTEMBER 07: Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks on prior to a game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on September 07, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Pittsburgh Steelers looked like a juggernaut of a team in the season opener, at least on offense.

Aaron Rodgers turned back the clock and had one of the best games of his career to take down his former team.

However, he also needed help from his kicker to get the job done.

Chris Boswell, who never ceases to amaze, knocked down a crucial field goal from 60 yards out to regain the lead late in the game.

That’s why his head coach, Mike Tomlin, had a hilarious and interesting choice of words to describe him:

“I can’t say enough about [Chris Boswell]. Our kicker is a serial killer. He got a low pulse rate. He can’t wait to deliver,” Tomlin said.

This will most definitely go down in the book of epic Mike Tomlin quotes, but it’s hard to disagree with him.

Boswell might as well be the best kicker in all of football right now, and that’s a lot to say, all things considered.

Long gone are the days in which kickers could be trusted to make extra points and routine field goals, so having a player as consistent and reliable as Boswell is a true blessing for this team.

Like he showed in Week 1, he could win a lot of games for them.

It’ll be interesting to see what this team looks like in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Perhaps expecting them to score 34 points again is a little too much to ask, but they shouldn’t give up 32 points, either.

Whatever the case, one thing’s for sure: Chris Boswell will play a big role, and playing against a tough defense, they might need to rely on his leg to take care of business again.
