D.K. Metcalf Makes Big Statement About Steelers’ Defense

Pittsburgh Steelers fans seemed worried when the team wasn’t aggressive in this year’s draft, especially at the quarterback position.
Many expected them to pursue someone like Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel, but they effectively punted at the position, taking Will Howard with a late-round pick.
Their Aaron Rodgers conversations eventually came to fruition, as he joined the team to help take their offense to the next level.
He’ll be able to play with a top-notch athlete in D.K. Metcalf, another new addition to the organization.
Metcalf has already demonstrated that he’s ready to play, developing a quick rapport with Rodgers, and he’s liking what he’s seeing on the other side of the ball.
As he recently mentioned to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Metcalf said, “I think they’re the best defense I’ve ever seen,” referencing his new teammates.

Playing against a top-tier defense allows players like Rodgers and Metcalf to take high-quality reps every day, knowing that their competition in practice is similar to what they’ll see in real games.
The Steelers’ defense is commonly highly-regarded, but they might have taken themselves to the next level, at least according to what Metcalf is seeing.
Mike Tomlin’s teams have been stuck in a mediocre rut over the past five years, finishing seasons with a .500 record but being unable to advance far in the playoffs.
Perhaps a revamped offense and a rejuvenated defense will be the perfect remedy to their problems, making for an exciting season for everyone involved.
