Former Scout Gets Honest About Caleb Williams’ Preseason Performance

Caleb Williams immediately had a large weight on his shoulders when the Chicago Bears used the No. 1 overall pick on him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Being the No. 1 pick always comes with a certain weight and pressure, but it was amplified considering the team that drafted him.
The Bears are a storied franchise with lots of success in the past, but they’ve struggled to replicate that recently.
Plus, they’ve never had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards in a season, the only team to never achieve this feat.
Williams’ prospect profile certainly lends itself to someone who could break this streak, but he was also inconsistent in his rookie season, putting some doubt in people’s heads.
There have been mixed reviews coming from training camp ahead of the 2025 season, as some have indicated that he’s gotten a lot better, while others have been concerned about his accuracy issues.
This dichotomy came to life during the Bears’ recent preseason game, giving fans around the league a chance to see this for themselves.
Former NFL Scout Daniel Kelly walked fans through this performance in a post on X, calling out a few things about Williams’ game.
“One good drive. One bad drive. Up and down. That’s who Caleb Williams is. True to form. Inconsistent ball placement. 60% completion percentage in his first two drives against the Bills (6/10),” Kelly posted on X.

When he’s at his best, Williams is accurate, throws the ball hard, and looks like a legitimate star.
However, as Kelly noted, that’s not always the case, and in his eyes, Williams will seemingly always be that way, as it’s a part of his DNA as a quarterback.
Can the second-year QB prove these reports incorrect in his second season, making the Bears proud of the draft capital they used on him?
