Mason Rudolph Has Honest Admission About Return To Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers needed a quarterback, so they brought back a familiar face to the mix.

They re-signed Mason Rudolph after a brief and failed tenure with the Tennessee Titans.

When asked about that, the perennial backup expressed his excitement for being back home:

“Good to be back in the Black & Gold, man,” Rudolph said.

Rudolph has never looked like a starting-caliber player, but he’s more than familiar with the Steelers’ ways and what Mike Tomlin likes to do in offense.

The head coach clearly likes what he brings to the table and trusts him in big moments.

Rudolph has been forced to take the field as a fill-in starter multiple times, and with an aging Aaron Rodgers there, he might be a solid insurance policy in the case he’s forced to miss time with an injury.

The Steelers managed to get Rodgers under contract after months of speculation and back and forth.

They backed themselves into a corner in negotiations with him, and failing to get him would’ve pretty much forced their hand to roll with the ever-struggling Rudolph instead.

Even so, Rodgers isn’t going to be a long-term solution at the position, and he’s even admitted that this will most likely be his final season in the league.

As such, the Steelers will have to get right back to the drawing board and find a quarterback for the future.

As many opportunities as they’ve given him, it’s become painfully evident that Rudolph isn’t the right man for the job, but he will most certainly stay as a backup for as long as he can.
